Desi Rainbow Story Time

We want to offer a playful, fun and affirming virtual community space for all children and their families, as well as allies, with our Desi Rainbow Story Time program.

Desi Rainbow Story Time is intended for families with children to enjoy stories read to them by LGBTQIA+ folks and allies. Our purpose is to celebrate diversity in gender and sexual orientation, South Asian pride, and the joy of reading, in alignment with our mission of building allyship in the Desi community.

One year of Story Time!

Over the course of a year, we have invited drag artists, writers and LGBTQIA+ activists to read books aloud to children and their families. The books have focused on South Asian pride, gender affirmation, overcoming adversity and intergenerational family connections, all linked to the South Asian immigrant experience and celebrating queer identity and gender diversity.

Through programs like Story Time, we hope to transform the experience of South Asian families raising queer and gender diverse children, build allyship and enjoy the range of children's literature available today.

We invite authors and publishers to contact us if you are interested in having your books featured. We also invite LGBTQIA+ activists, performers and artists to contact us if they want to read books to families. We look forward to many more years of Story Time!
